A downloadable game for Windows

This game is a top-down adventure where players take on the role of a cute cat swordsman, battling evil robots in a post-apocalyptic world. The gameplay focuses on engaging dungeon-style combat, requiring players to strategically navigate and defeat enemies while uncovering the hidden truth behind the extinction of humans. The game features a unique art style that blends futuristic technology with a desolate, ruined world, creating an atmosphere that is both adorable and dangerous.

Development Background:

This project is part of Columbia University's Game Research Lab's "Game Sprint" initiative, where I developed the entire game solo over a two-week period. The scope of my work includes:

  • UI Design: I created a clean and intuitive user interface, allowing players to navigate the game with ease.
  • Level Selection System: A fully functional level selection screen was developed, offering players the freedom to choose between different stages of combat.
  • Cutscenes: Short but impactful cutscenes were designed to immerse players in the game's post-apocalyptic world and its evolving storyline.
  • Complete Music & Sound Effects: The audio design plays a crucial role in building immersion, with a dynamic soundtrack and sound effects that elevate the overall experience.
  • Animations: I implemented smooth animations for the protagonist and enemies, ensuring fluid combat interactions and visually appealing effects.

Resource Utilization:

To accelerate development and maintain visual and auditory quality, the game leverages various assets:

  • Unity Store Assets: I utilized a cartoon city ruins animation pack to depict the game's post-apocalyptic setting. Additionally, I incorporated a cartoon cat model and animations for the protagonist, as well as cartoon robot models and animations for the enemies.
  • Audio Resources: The game's sound effects and music are sourced from the Ultimate SFX Bundle - HD Remaster, providing high-quality audio that enhances both the atmosphere and the action.
  • Code and Assets: Some code and assets from my previous projects were reused to optimize development time and maintain consistency. I also used resources from the TopDown Engine to assist with core mechanics and functionalities.

Future Development Plans:

Looking ahead, if development continues, I plan to focus on two key areas:

  • Enhanced Combat System: I aim to introduce more varied combat mechanics, including advanced combo attacks, a broader range of enemies, and unique combat interactions to deepen the gameplay experience.
  • Engaging Storyline: A more intricate narrative will be developed, allowing players to progressively uncover the mysteries surrounding the cat swordsman and the robot-controlled world, creating an emotionally resonant and thought-provoking experience.

For the best experience, it is recommended to start with the second level, as the first level is an incomplete demonstration of basic gameplay mechanics from the first week of development.
